This is a creative, hands-on activity that can be used to learn so many things such as animals, sight words, numbers, letters, name recognition, learning upper and lower case letters, spelling words, and math – to name a few. Honestly, the uses are endless!

Be sure to check out her blog post with all of the great ideas you can use the ‘Say It, Make It, Write It’ mats for HERE.

Today we are going to focus on one idea you can use the mat for, which is numbers.

Supplies Needed

  • Paper

  • Dry erase marker

  • Popsicle sticks

  • Black marker

  • Playdough

  • Laminator

  • Tape

Directions

  • Download the FREE ‘Say It, Make It, Write It’ mats from You Clever Monkey’s website HERE. If you have a laminator, laminate the mat to make it easy to reuse. If you don’t have access to a laminator, you can put a piece of packing tape over the ‘Write It’ section. This will allow you to erase the dry erase marker from the mat.

  • Using a black marker, write the numbers one – ten on the Popsicle sticks (one number on each stick).

  • Draw and cut out a single tens frame and tape it in the ‘Make It’ section.

  • Have your child go through each number:

    1. Place the numbered Popsicle stick in the ‘Say It’ section.
    2. Using the play dough, fill in the ten frame with the same number of play dough balls.
    3. Using the dry erase marker, write the number.
  • Repeat with all of the Popsicle sticks.
