Homework Stations

Ahhh, homework. Every child (and parent’s) favorite part of school. Keeping everything organized can be tricky if you don’t have a predetermined place for it all to be. A homework station is a great solution and is easy to create. It helps keep everything organized and all things school related in one place. The importance of a homework station is that it gives kids a space where they can focus and have everything they need right at the tips of their fingers. It also helps organize all the papers that come home from school. Having a space dedicated to where everything belongs will eliminate searching for pencils and paper in the evenings and mornings of frantically trying to find that permission slip that’s due today. Having this dedicated space also allows you to easily create an after school routine and integrate practicing time management. No need to panic, you do not have to have a desk in order to create this, we are going to be using a mobile craft cart. It is easy to wheel around to the living room, dining room or bedroom and can easily be stored in a corner in your house. Let’s get started.

Supplies

  • Mobile craft cart

  • Magazine holders

  • Medium mason jars or plastic cups

  • Small bin containers ( & a shower caddy)

  • Pens (black, blue, and red)

  • Pencils

  • Paper

  • Pencil sharpener

  • Crayons

  • Colored pencils

  • Glue

  • Tape

  • Calculator

  • Ruler

Get Organized

  • On the top of the cart:
Place four magazine holders in the cart. These can be labeled using a label maker or you can get creative and hand write these four categories. Parent Check, To School, Keep, and Paper.

  • In the middle:
Organize all pens, pencils, crayons, and colored pencils into mason jars or cups. This allows easy accessibility and you’ll never hear the excuses of not having the right supplies. A shower caddy is a great way to store them for easy access.

  • On the bottom:
Using small bins, organize the other supplies needed to complete your new homework station.

  • Tip: To eliminate stress throughout the school week, I suggest cleaning and going through the homework station each weekend. This will get you ready for each new week and ensure they always have what they need to get their homework done.
