5 Easy Halloween Crafts That Won’t Destroy Your Kitchen

Halloween crafts should be fun for your kid and not a cleanup nightmare for you. Here are five low-mess ideas you can pull off with stuff from around the house (and maybe one trip to the craft aisle).

1. Paper Bag Pumpkins

Stuff an orange paper bag loosely with newspaper, twist the top closed, and add a green pipe cleaner for a stem. Draw a jack-o’-lantern face with markers. Zero mess, five minutes.

2. Handprint Spiders

Trace your child’s hand on black paper (or use washable paint for a handprint). Add two googly eyes. Instant spider — and a sweet keepsake.

3. Egg Carton Bats

Cut two cups from an egg carton, paint them black, and glue on white paper eyes. Add paper wings behind them for a bat that can hang on the fridge.

4. Toilet Paper Tube Mummies

Wrap a cardboard tube in strips of white paper or gauze, leaving a gap for two googly eyes. Easiest “mummy” you’ll ever make, and no tape residue on the table.

5. Candy Corn Craft Stick Puppets

Paint three craft sticks (or one stick in three stripes) yellow, orange, and white. Glue to a popsicle stick handle for an instant puppet show.
