Caramel Apple Chips

Fall is in the air in Utah! The leaves are amazing right now, there’s a chill in the morning air, and pumpkin spice is everywhere.  One of my favorite things in the fall is apple! Apple scented candles, apple cider, homemade potpourri with apples and cinnamon… it just screams fall!

Today we are sharing this amazingly yummy recipe from our friends at Princess Pinky Girl for caramel apple chips!

They’re really fun and easy, taste amazing, and they’re apples, so they’re healthy!

Ingredients

  • 2 Apples (Granny Smith apples work great, but you can use whichever kind you prefer.)

  • ¼ cup Caramel Sauce

Directions

  • Slice the apples as thinly as possible. Spread out on a cookie sheet that is covered with parchment paper or a silicon baking sheet.

  • Spread a thin layer of caramel onto each apple slice.

  • Bake at 200* F for about 2 hours, or a little longer if your slices are thicker. You will see the edges start to curl, showing they are dried out and getting crunchy.

  • Remove from oven and allow to cool.

  •  Store in airtight container at room temperature.

Tips For Making Apple Chips

  • Cut the apples as thin as you can. Thicker slices will be more chewy.

  • When it comes to smearing the caramel on the sliced apples, the thinner the better again. Otherwise you will end up with a pool of sticky caramel on the apple slices no matter how long you bake them. With a thin coat of caramel, it bakes right into the apple and we’re left with a crispy apple chip that has a baked-in hint of caramel.

  • These need to bake low and slow.
